Around 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers state they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then located many other marked cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say initial examinations show the fluid was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; authorities are not yet informed of any injuries in relation with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the public for tips.
A senior official commented the incident left him speechless and had to be addressed promptly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing attack in 2020," he posted on social media, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
